SMALL BRAND INTRODUCTION
ONE DAY Ethos of Cities and Tea collections are the two main lines in One Day portfolio.
As a small indie perfumer, Michael Wong, creator of the brand has been awarded with highest olfactory achievement prize for his fragrance – Oolong Tea. Operating from Hong-Kong, each bottle is carefully travelling to various corners of the world and more people recognise the talent of the perfumer I have a lot of pleasure to call my friend.
MY THOUGHTS
I fell hard for their tea range and our communication became a great friendship as result. So with best thoughts in my heart, I want to introduce you to the range of ONE DAY Ethos of Cities range of perfumes that are inspired buy certain locations of the globe.
I’ve been wearing it so much lately. We had so much rain these past months and so many stormy days that I wanted to climb the walls in desperation. The only things keeping me same were Berlin and Vitamin D supplements. Vetiver and birch tar gems with just a soft whisper of rose in the mix is what I need on a gloomy day. I am a fan of vetiver and it is rather prominent in Berlin. Dark and smoky, it is just Edgar Allan Poe’s Raven in a bottle. They way it creates this gloomy romantic and gothic atmosphere at the same time around me on my skin is mesmerising. I don’t get much guaiac wood which I enjoy, more vetiver and birch for me, yay!
Green, floral, rooty. Literally, welcome to the rainforest. It is the scent of hot steaming air in a tropical forest. Walking on the path surrounded with green vines and cracking small branches under your flip flops. It is very serene and open air fragrance. Something I would wear for the right mood at the right time, definitely while meditating and not to the office. Vetiver in here is very pastel hued, there is rootines of it present in the entire development of the scent, but it is not dark or in your face. Very transparent composition that just symbolises that moment, when you sit on the terras of the hotel, facing tree tops at sunset and just take a deep breath and smile knowing you have finally arrived to your holiday destination and best is yet to come.
That particular scent just can’t not put a smile on your face. Very innocent, youthful and fresh with sweet candied lemon accord and heaps of neroli in the heart. Besides its very happy and delicate aura it is one of the strongest fragrances in entire ONE DAY collection. Really mouthwatering Thai Soda is reminiscent of holidays and sunshine where cream soda is bubbling in a glass, filled with ice mixed with slices of lemon and orange for that extra zingy flavor. Scrumptious treat for the summer time.
Altogether Seoul is a scent of an expensive café. Seoul is very lush and warm, definitely dry gourmand aroma of a place that serves you the very best posh hot drinks in town. Forget your average Starbucks, this roast hits different. Caramelized sugar on top of fancy coffee, hot chocolate with shavings of nutmeg just for the extra dash of flavor. Seoul is an olfactory treat that would soothe my need for smell of fresh coffee in the morning. Subtle and elegant, it is doing its thing on my skin making me crave a good cup of brew. I wish it had more sweetness in the base though, maybe a croissant accord to make the entire composition extra “Oomph”.
TOP: BERGAMOT | NEROLI
HEART: CEDAR | GUAIAC WOOD | FRANKINCENSE
BASE:PATCHOULI | SANDALWOOD | MUSK
Woody and peaceful, Kyoto is definition of subtle frankincense use in a fragrance. It has that interesting green and mineralic aspect on my skin that I didn’t expect. Feels like dash of thyme is added to the incense and sandalwood chips and they are all placed onto burner. And right before the wood chips mix starts smoking, the juicy green moment is just a short prelude to the mellow creamy constant woodiness. I really enjoy the drydown when clean musk starts silencing the sandalwood and incense as the scent dies down into very soft scent of freshly ironed crisp white shirt.
Beautiful symbiosis of mint and lavender on my skin from the start. One of the most brightest takes on lavender that I’ve ever smelled. I wish there was a candy with that taste, I’d be all over it. Bergamot is more present as a rind of the fruit, bitter green and sappy. Interestingly enough I notice a lot of fig in the dry down but it doesn’t strike me as fig, it is rather one more edge of greenness added to the main players which are mint and lavender. Absolute thumbs up from me, especially if you’re into bright refreshing cocktail-like scents. Yaba-daba-doo!
Another favorite of mine. It is everything in a bottle. Wood panels on the walls in fancy restaurant at the seaside. It is the smell of hot stones in the desert and campfire at night. It is also the smell of sandalwood chips in the burner at my friend’s home who gets them shipped straight from India so there is that soft hint of spices there. London is definitely most challenging to describe and you may think wtf, things are clashing. But no, they are not. It teleports you into different scenarios, ones you’ve experienced before so my bet is for everyone trying P.S., it will create totally different atmosphere, unique to your memories.
