After sniffing several latest and not so greatest releases by Amouage and being underwhelmed in general with a lot of scents that are currently being fed to the public, I made a conscious decision to stay off trying overhyped new niche releases for a while and dig around within another scented ground. I picked 2 categories to revisit: raw materials and still unknown to me flankers within my favorite designer releases. First has many things to offer while latest meant chasing some limited editions samples across the universe. Not a simple task, I tell you.
So once I had the luxury to not find the one thing I was interested in since its launch, simply because it was one of those “Middle-East market only” releases I just went bazooks and ordered a bottle of JPG’s Scandal Gold. Yes, blindly.
I did not know what to expect. JPG Scandal’s first releases were never a wow for me. Too bleh… One exception to it was So Scandal in the square velvet box that disappeared from the shelves just to become permanent part of the collection last year. and now this, Scandal Gold. Simply WOW! Everything that Middle-East has to offer scented elements wise is here. With exception to oud, but it is not necessary in this composition.
Nagarmotha and patchouli create stellar spicy dark kick to the jasmine and sandalwood. Endless aura of saffron, leather and sharp prickly density of roses.
Truly, an award worthy chypre. I would have never imagined THIS to be part of Scandal line, more so it should have been amongst top best-selling fragrances originating in the Gulf area. It is easily in the top 3 best discoveries for this year for me alongside with Ultima Storia and Rauque.
